Where are all the activities taking place?
We are located in Kaneohe Bay. We operate out of Heeia Kea Boat Harbor at 46-499 Kamehameha Hwy. Kaneohe, HI 96744
 
We are open from Tuesday – Saturday. We are closed on Sundays, Mondays, and federal holidays.
 

Activities including Kayaks, Stand up paddle board, Water Volleyball, Snorkeling and our floating lounge are all included and limited to use/share amongst guests during the duration of the tour. Free play. There is no set time schedule, everyone shares activities/equipment and participation is optional.

We do not refund for bad weather (rain, cold temperatures, etc.).

There are restrooms and dressing rooms on the main vessel. There are no showers.

For additional fee we provide round-trip transportation to the boat harbor from designated Waikiki hotels.

Total time approx. 3 ½ hours Morning program – be at Heeia Kea Boat Harbor by 9:00am – we depart promptly by 9:30 and get back to the harbor by 12:30. Afternoon program – – be at Heeia Kea Boat Harbor by 12:30pm – we depart promptly by 1:00 and get back to the harbor by 4:00.

– No alcoholic beverages or other intoxicating substances before participating in snorkeling activity.

– You are aware of the medical restrictions.

– Beach chairs, oversized floating toys, and personal paddleboards/kayaks are not allowed on the tour.

– You are not allowed to wander off on your own, you must stay within our designated area.

– Please follow all rules and safety guidelines from our Captains and Crew members.

If the following conditions apply, you may not be able to participate in some activities.

Please consult with us in advance as it varies depending on individual circumstances.

– Customer cannot be under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

– Customer has previous history of ear disease.

– Customer has previous history of lung, respiratory disease, or sinus problems.

– Customer has previous history of heart disease, high blood pressure, or diabetes.

– Customer has previous history of dizzy spells, paralysis, seizures, epilepsy, or claustrophobia.

– Customer is currently pregnant (Will need doctors clearance).

– Customer is currently taking medications for any illness condition.

– Customer has had recent surgery or experienced any other major medical situations.

1. General Tour Information

What is the Kaneohe Sandbar?
The Kaneohe Sandbar is a natural, white-sand reef located in the middle of Kaneohe Bay on Oʻahu’s windward coast. A stunning spot to walk, swim, and explore. It’s one of the most unique experiences in Hawaii and is only accessible by boat.
 
Kaneohe Bay sits on the east side of Oʻahu, about a 30- to 40-minute drive from Waikiki or Honolulu. KBOS operates directly out of Heʻeia Kea Boat Harbor, the closest and most convenient marina to access the sandbar.
 

Our tours typically last about 3 hours, giving you plenty of time to enjoy the boat ride, relax at the sandbar, and try out activities like snorkeling, paddleboarding, and banana boat rides.

Depending on your package, activities may include snorkeling with tropical fish, paddleboarding, kayaking, banana boat rides, bumper tubes, or simply relaxing on the sandbar. We provide the equipment and guides, so you can focus on having fun.

Yes! Families with children of all ages are welcome. The calm waters of Kaneohe Bay make it safe and enjoyable for kids, while adults can enjoy both relaxation and adventure.

2. Weather & Seasonal Conditions

Is the Kaneohe Sandbar tour available year-round?
Yes, our tours run throughout the year. Hawaii’s warm, tropical climate means you can enjoy the sandbar in any season.
 
Light tropical showers are common in Hawaii and usually pass quickly. Tours still run in rain, but in the rare case of unsafe weather, we’ll notify you and help reschedule or refund your booking.
 
Yes, the tide changes how much of the sandbar is exposed. During low tide, you can walk on dry sand, while at high tide, the water may be waist- to chest-deep. No matter the tide, the sandbar is always beautiful and swimmable.
 
Both morning and afternoon tours offer incredible views. Mornings often have calmer seas and clearer water, while afternoons provide golden light perfect for photos.

How do I book a Kaneohe Sandbar tour?
You can easily book online through our official website or by phone. Advance reservations are highly recommended, as tours often sell out.
 
We suggest booking at least a week in advance, especially during peak seasons like summer and holidays, to secure your preferred date and time.
 
Yes, changes and cancellations are possible within our policy window. Please review our cancellation policy when booking, or contact our team for assistance.
 
Digital confirmations are accepted. Simply show your booking email on your phone at check-in.

Tips are not included but are greatly appreciated by our crew if you enjoyed your experience.

How do I get to Kaneohe Bay Ocean Sports?
We operate out of Heʻeia Kea Boat Harbor in Kaneohe. Directions and parking details will be provided in your confirmation email.
 
Yes, shuttle service is available from select hotels in Waikiki and Honolulu for an additional fee. Please book in advance to secure your spot.
 
We recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before departure to allow time for parking and check-in.
 
Yes, parking is available at Heʻeia Kea Harbor. 
Bring your booking confirmation (digital or printed), a photo ID, sunscreen, a swimsuit, towel, and any personal items you may need.
 

6. Onboard Experience

What type of boat is used for the sandbar tour?
KBOS operates a spacious, comfortable catamaran designed for large groups. Our big boat features shaded seating, restrooms, and easy access to the water.
 
Yes. Our boats are designed for comfort with shaded areas, plenty of seating, and clean restroom facilities on our big boat.
 
We provide a light lunch for our afternoon tours. Guests are welcome to bring their own snacks.
 
Yes, personal food and non-alcoholic drinks are welcome. Please no glass bottles.
 
Yes, all necessary safety equipment including life jackets is provided.

Will I see sea turtles or fish at the sandbar?
Yes, Kaneohe Bay is home to Hawaiian green sea turtles “Honu”, colorful reef fish, and other marine life. While sightings aren’t guaranteed, they are very common.
 
No, for the safety of the animals and yourself, please observe wildlife respectfully without touching or feeding.
 
Yes, coral reefs surround parts of the bay. Snorkeling near the sandbar often reveals vibrant reef life.
